Is it possible to make the wire diagram tags to Display source-destination ?

Currently, we have a customer that requires the wire diagram tags to display the source (The point on the device in which the wire is leaving from) to the destination (The point on the device the wire is going to.)

Example:
source--------->destination

Product name: Promis.e
Version: 08.11.13.96

  • Typically, a Wire Diagram only dynamically reports connections information for the wire and its destination.  The device itself is the source so typically the connection information for that is shown on the Device/Diagram.  For example, in your picture you can see the Device ID of the source above the plug and the connection point is shown inside the plug. You could also choose to make this information more chart like and less graphical.  It would be redundant to show that information twice, and the source info for a given Wire Diagram would not change, only the destination would change so there isn’t really a need to make it a variable field.  What is your end goal in having this information displayed twice?

  • Tani,

    Typically our standard is to only show the destination, but we have customers that specify for the wiring diagram tags and the actual tags in the switchgear to match. So the only way we would be able to do this is to make the actual tags in the wire diagrams to show the source and destination. Is there any possible way to generate this tag format on the wire diagrams?

    Thank you for your help with this issue.

  • Maybe I am misunderstanding your use of the word "tags".  Tags in Promis.e refer to the ID, so you'd have Device ID tags and Wire Number ID tags and Wire Link ID tags.  Wire Diagrams are basically a graphical report of the output that exists in the project.  So the information on the Wire Diagram should always equal the information in the schematics unless you have changed something in the Schematic without also updating the Wire Diagram so that it still had old information.

    So in general the Device ID of the source is part of the Wire Diagram symbol  and the Wire Number Tag and Destination ID tag are part of the variable text that fills in on the symbol.  What do you mean by the "actual tag" that you want to match this information?

    As I said in the above post, only destination and wire information are available as variable fields here.  The Source info is part of the Wire Diagram symbol and does not change.  So if you need to have it appear on the Wire Diagram in the same place as the variable text you are using for the destination then you can have that appear wherever you want on the symbol so that it appears to be one string of text by creating the Wire Diagram symbol that way.

    It was suggested that when you say "actual tags" you might be talking about Wire Labels vs Wire Numbers here.  For example, some users wish to print physical labels for the wires so that each end is labeled with source, wire number, and destination values.  That makes for a large wire label, but is not unheard of.  If you are trying to describe that you have a user who wants wires labeled this way and that they also want to see this same wire label format shown for the values on the wire diagrams, then you are still in the same case as above.  There are no variables to show the Label values on Wire Diagrams, and the only way to see Source info is to have it be part of the Wire Diagram symbol, so it is possible to create your Wire Diagrams to look this way, but not possible to change your existing Wire Diagrams just by changing the project formatting options for the expression.
