How to create Level to hide symbol in Promis.e ?

Hello,

Can anyone show me how to create a new level (layer) using Promis.e to conceal the cable in the schematic? I need to include cables in the schematic but I do not want to show it when print out to pdf. I tried to use "active Element Transparency" on the cable symbol, but when placed on the wire, it somehow displays that the wire is not connected due to the presence of the transparent cable on the wire.

  • Hi Sofia,

As you mention that you want to conceal the cable in the schematic but you want show it when print out to PDF, so you can try the following steps:

    Create the pen table

    1. From the main pull down menus, select File > Print.

    2. On the Print dialog, select PenTable > New or Resymbolization > New Pen Table.

    3. Choose a convenient location for the "Save in" folder (note this location) and enter a name in the "File name" field.  Click Save.

    4. A Modify Pen Table dialog should open with the "Element Selection Criteria" tab active.

Modify the pen table to hide elements of color 3

As an example, the following procedure can be used to to make a color 3 not print yet still be visible when designing.

    1. On the "Element Selection Criteria" tab of the Modify Pen Table dialog, click the Color button.

    2. On the Select Colors dialog, click on the circle for the color to be invisible on prints.  In this example, color 3.  Since the color number is not displayed until the color is selected, the process may be somewhat trial and error.  When a color is selected, the circle for that color will turn into a square and a "Color: xx (On)" message will appear below the chart of colors.

For this example we want color 3 to be On and all other colors to be off.  If the message indicates you've turned on a different color, click the square for that color to turn it off again, or click the None button.

    3. When the message confirms that the desired color(s) is On, click OK.  The Color field back on the "Element Selection Criteria" tab of the Modify Pen Table dialog should now list the desired color(s).  Again, in this example color 3 and only color 3 should be listed:

    4. Select the "Element Output Actions" tab.

    5. Enable the "Do not plot" check box.

    6. Select File > Save from the menus on the Modify Pen Table dialog.

    7. Close the Modify Pen Table dialog.

    8. Close the Print dialog.

    9. Now you can Plot to print.

      Regards,
      Avanti

  • Another possibility we have used in the past is to make a custom Cable symbol so that instead of the graphics being a line that slashes across the wire to signify the cable that it instead is a short line that sits directly on top the wire, so it is not visible on the page unless the wire is deleted.  This is especially useful because there is still a graphical element that is visible on the page to be selected and edited, but you don't really "see" it because it sits on top the wire.  Whenever you make something completely invisible, it is difficult for users to know the item is there and we will sometimes have cases where people will try to insert some new item in that spot or want to reuse that same cable name elsewhere and get messages saying something already exists in the project, but since you can't see it, it is difficult to find.

  • Hi Avanti,

Thank you for your reply & explanation, however, is it doesn't require me to create any layer in level manager to hide the cable? Do you know any ways to do so?

  • Hi,

Thank you, Tani, for your suggestion. I will propose this way to my colleague.
