Is it possible to maintain text position when replacing symbols?

Hi John,

The text position can be changed during the symbol creation/modification process. You can change the position of the Tag Mnemonic as well as the Attributes of a symbol in the Symbol Creation Wizard.

If you want the Tag Mnemonic to be at the bottom of the symbol, go to the Symbol Creation Wizard. Modify the existing symbol and when on the Specify Device ID tab you can move the Tag Mnemonic or Symbol Attributes to the desired location.



When prompted to overwrite the existing symbol click on Yes to modify the existing symbol. You can also save the modified symbol as a new one with a different name.

If the modified symbol is already placed in the drawing you will be prompted to Replace the Symbol. After the symbol is replaced in the existing page or in the entire project, you can then see the text positions changed.

The question is probably not about changing fixed text position inside symbol, but to maintain text position if changed manually only for some of them.The same applies to text attributies, that was manually changed.

Like we have a checklist in "Replace symbol" dialog and we can check what to maintain when the symbol is replaced.

At least I have the same problem with it...

Hi John. What product are you using?

There may be an existing enhancement request that matches yours. Ideally, symbol design is complete before it is used extensively in projects, and Replace Symbol is meant to replace the symbol on the page with the symbol definition in the catalog including text positions, so the demand for such an enhancement may be low.

That said, if there was a Text Positions check box in the Maintain on New Symbol area of the Replace Symbol dialog that would affect all symbol texts (Device ID, Connection Point Text, Symbol Attributes, etc.), would that satisfy your question? Or does each text type (Device ID, Connection Point Text, Symbol Attributes, etc.) need its own "maintain text position" check box? The latter option may be less likely to be implemented.

Im using Promis.e V8i (SELECTseries 8) version 08.11.13.96. A single Text Position check box that would affect all symbol text would be perfectly suitable. If there is already an existing request for this functionality, when do you think it will be available?

Hi Matt, please add me to the requestor list. Single Text Positions checkbox (for all texts connected with symbol) will be perfect match.
