  • Hi Nyguyen Toi. There is a "Bentley Substation for 3D Site Design Symbol Creation" course you can attend. The next instructor-led session of this course is August 9 & 10. See the Training FAQs article for information on finding and registering for courses.

Can you give more details about what you mean by "I can't get it out for a 3D drawing" ?  Do you mean you are only able to make a 2D symbol? Or do you mean you are unable to find or insert the symbol onto a drawing?

  • I Live on VietNam, so I can't attend that course. I'm very happy because you concerned about my question.

I want you teach me how to create a 3D symbol (Circuit breaker, current transformer....), and how to save it on Substation Object and use that symbol when I want to use (on a 3A drawing)

I hope You can understand what i mean, My English level is so bad and i'm very sory about that.

Thank you and waiting your information.`

  • Please know that you can also download the course material and go through it as an on-demand, self-paced course.

Bentley Communities is not intended to replace Bentley's LEARNserver training courses. If you have questions or problems with a specific part of the symbol creation process, please reply with your questions and we can try to help. But we cannot give full training in this forum.

    Some pointers to consider:

    • When creating a symbol for use in 3D Layout mode, specify a 3D seed file on the first step of Create Symbol.
    • You can construct the symbol using platform tools such as Slab Solid and Cylinder Solid in the Solids Modeling task or you can import geometry from manufacturer models using the method described in the Creating symbols from 3D models article.
    • Plan how you will use Hook Points so that you can insert symbols quickly and easily on 3D Layout pages. Hook points are used to control orientation and position of symbols relative to mating symbols and to prevent symbols from being inserted onto incompatible symbols. For example, with matching hook points, a piece of equipment can be inserted onto foundations with the correct orientation, but another piece of equipment with different hook points would not insert onto the foundation as easily.
    • For symbols to be available on the Insert Substation Objects tool, create part numbers for them using Parts Database Manager and specify an appropriate Part_Type value. See also the Parts missing from Insert Substation Objects article.
