How to set the default text styles used for device ID, connection point texts, and attributes (symbol text) so I don't have to configure them every time I open Create Symbol?
The default text settings for the various kinds of text in Create Symbol are read from the active open project. Specifically, the text styles from Project Options > Standards > Text Settings are applied in symbol creation. If no project page is open when Create Symbol is invoked, the text styles are read from the file specified in the "Project option profile" field on Setup > System Paths.
The text settings applied to the various text types when Create Symbol is opened can always be changed while in Create Symbol.
Be aware that the "Use text style" and "Use text height" options for each text style in Project Options > Standards > Text Settings will, if enabled, override the text properties given to text in Create Symbol when the symbol is inserted in the project. The purpose of these settings is to provide a way of making symbol text appear universal throughout a project regardless of how the symbols were created, and to provide a way of making symbol text appear differently in different projects. So it may not be necessary to be concerned about how the text appears while in Create Symbol. Conversely, it may be best to have the text appear in Create Symbol as it will in the project in order to correctly position it.
In versions prior to SELECTseries 7, substitute Project Options > Text Settings for Project Options > Standards > Text Settings throughout this document.
Open a page in a project.
Select Options > Project Options > Standards > Text Settings and edit the Symbol Text style as desired. The "Use Text Style" and "Use Text Height" options do not need to be enabled to affect Create Symbol.
Select the Create Symbol tool. Note that the text settings from the project have propagated to the text settings in the symbol creation wizard.
Since creating or modifying a symbol closes the open project page, be sure to enable the "Restart wizard after symbol save" check box on the "Save Symbol" step if the intent is to create another symbol right away. This will keep the project's text settings active without needing to open a project page before starting Create Symbol again.
Create a project options .XML file with the settings in Options > Project Options > Standards > Text Settings set to the settings to be applied to Create Symbol.
Specify this "Project option profile" on Setup > System Paths.
Both steps are described in Template Project Options - V8i.
