Problem Description

In [[Catalog Manager]] and on the [[Insert Symbol By Name]] dialog, the preview of the selected symbol appears "zoomed out" so that the symbol is very small.  Opening and re-saving the symbol in [[Create Symbol]] does not help, nor does [[Rebuild Catalog|rebuilding the catalog]].

Explanation

There may be elements present in the symbol drawing that are a significant distance from the visible symbol graphics. These elements are affecting the calculation of the extents of the symbol graphics and may or may not be visible themselves. In past cases they have been found to be empty Text or Text Node elements and therefore not visible, but there could be other element types.

This same problem may affect previews for other items such as title blocks or project pages. Adapt the steps below for those items. For example backup the title block using [[Export Catalog]], open the title block using [[Title Block Designer]], proceed from step 3 in the steps below.

Steps to Resolve

1. Use [[Export Catalog]] to backup the affected symbol(s) or entire catalog.
2. Open the problem symbol in [[Create Symbol]] and proceed to a step in the wizard where the symbol is visible in the drawing area.
3. Press CTRL+A to select all elements.
4. On the Element Selection box, select the - button (Subtract)
   
5. Draw a selection box closely around the visible elements to remove them from the selection set.
6. (Optional) Select Element > Information to inspect what elements remain in the selection set.
7. Press the Delete key to delete the elements remaining in the selection set.
8. Go to the last step of the Create Symbol wizard and click Finish to save the symbol.
