The BRCM installation guide describes creating an data source name (DSN) for connecting to the SQL database via ODBC. This article describes how to configure a BRCM project without creating an ODBC DSN.
An advantage of this method is that it eliminates the need to create a DSN on each BRCM workstation.
The .pcf file for each project contains a line that specifies the ODBC connect string. It normally looks something like the following:
BRCM_DB_CONNECTSTRING=DSN=BRCMUSER;UID=BRCMUser;PWD=BRCM
The above string requires a DSN of BRCMUSER to exist and function.
Instead of specifying a DSN, the connect string could be specified as follows:
BRCM_DB_CONNECTSTRING=Driver={SQL Server};Server=(local)\BENTLEYECAD;Database=BRCM;UID=BRCMUser;PWD=BRCM
In the above line, the ODBC driver "{SQL Server}", server name, and database name are specified instead of a DSN. Note that the driver name is enclosed in curly brackets.
When BRCM is integrated with ProjectWise, the connect string is specified in the workspace configuration block instead of the .pcf file.
