This article expands on the information provided in the "ProjectWise Configuration" chapter of the Bentley Raceway and Cable Management V8i Installation Guide, which is typically found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\BRCM\Documentation
The main tasks include:
Create a New ApplicationCreate a New Project TypeCreate a New Workspace FolderModify Workspace Profiles (Create a Configuration Block)Create a New ProjectAssociate a Project to a WorkspaceCheck the Configuration
The creation of a new application and project type must be performed only once in the initial setup. Both Bentley Raceway and Cable Management and ProjectWise Administrator must be installed on the machine on which the following process is performed.
The new application is now created.
This step creates a project type to be used with BRCM projects. This is primarily for adding BRCM_DB_ID as a ProjectWise project property.
This step copies the BRCM dataset into ProjectWise. It is also possible to use a datasset that is outside ProjectWise while the project is in ProjectWise. In that case the following procedure would be skipped.
This step adds a configuration block to store the variables used by Bentley Raceway and Cable Management to locate configuration and metadata files.
The configuration block holds values for various configuration variables, some of which would be stored in the PCF file for projects outside of ProjectWise.
Create the Configuration Block
Add the variables
pw:\\...\Workspace\metadata\(browse [...] for this folder)
The project must be associated with the workspace.
The list must contain ProjectWise folder variables defined in the Modify Workspace Profiles section.
The values of the ProjectWise folder variables must contain a local folder.
Mark, BRCM_DB_CONNECTSTRING, not BRCM_DB_ID, tells BRCM what ODBC connection to use.
If BRCM_DB_ID has a value in both the project property and the configuration block, the value set in the configuration block takes effect. So if you want to use the project property, do not specify BRCM_DB_ID in the configuration block.
Does the project property BRCM_DB_ID actually tell BRCM what ODBC connection to use or is it only using the value of BRCM_DB_ID from the workspace configuration?
