The Replace Symbol Text tool is used to replace the values of symbol attributes such as Function Text by importing a text file.
The file to be imported is a plain text (ASCII) file with a .txt file extension. Such files can be created and modified using an editor like Notepad. The contents of the file should use this syntax:
"installation","location","device tag","attribute name", "new text string"
For example:
"LINE1","BAY1","105MTR1","FunctionText","CONVEYOR MOTOR""LINE1","BAY1","105MTR1","5 HP",""LINE1","EN3","210SS1","FunctionText","CONVEYOR RUN"
Each line must include the installation, location, device tag, attribute name, and the new attribute value with no spaces except for the values within the quotes. Otherwise a "The Format of input file is incorrect! Please choose a correct file." message will be displayed.
Use the symbol attribute names, not the prompts seen on various dialogs. The attribute names are visible in the Name column on the Specify Attributes step of the Create Symbol wizard.
From the Tasks or ribbon area, select Review/Revise > *Replace > Replace Symbol Text
Select Search > Replace Symbol Attributes
* is used to denote a menu selection that is not necessary in some versions or platforms.
