Bentley Map SS4 Bing Maps

To Attach Bing Maps Layer

Bing Maps feature must be activated. Go to Create a Bings Map key to obtain a key from Bring Map.

Create a new configuration variable named "MS_RASTER_BINGMAP_KEY" and give it the value of your
Bing Maps key. Example, "abcdefGhiJklmnop_qrstuvwXyz".

Save the variable then close and reopen MicroStation.

Go to File > Attach > Bing Maps… in the Raster Manager dialog box.
The "Raster Attachments Options" dialog opens.
There are three options to choose from
 Road: a cartographic type map with roads and place names
 Aerial: aerial photography of the earth
 Aerial with labels: a hybrid of aerial photography and roads and place names

You could also use the keyins >
• raster attach fixed http://www.bing.com/maps/road
• raster attach fixed http://www.bing.com/maps/aerial
• raster attach fixed http://www.bing.com/maps/aerialwithlabels

Furthermore, once in Map Enterprise, you can open the Help > Contents. Go to Reference, Raster Images, and Point Cloud > Raster Image Display > Raster Image Display. You will find out a Bing Maps bullet.

Notice that this Bing Maps feature is a Microstation feature. So, it should be available in the upcoming Microsation release, but this would need to be confirmed by the Microstation team to make sure.

MicroStation 08.11.09.601 is the first published release of MIcroStation that supports Bing Maps.

Just took a look on the downloads site and don't see any mention of this version (08.11.09.601) of MicroStation. Where did you source this version?

Good question. I checked SELECTservices pages and didn't find the mentioned version available for download. But there is build 08.11.09.608 available as a prerequisite for some products (Descartes, RailTrack...). I have not tested it, but if .601 was the first version with Bing Maps, the build 08.11.09.608 should contain them also.

But be aware this build was released as the prerequisitie, not officialy released version, so from Bentley support perspective it should be used only with the supported product, not as standard installation.

I'd like to clear some confusion, 08.11.09.601 is the build number of the first Descartes release that supports Bing Maps.

That build of Descartes is based on the platform version 08.11.09.608. Although MicroStation 08.11.09.608 was made available as a prerequisite for Descartes Ss5 MR2, and potentially other products, there is no official MicroStation releases based on that platform.
