Is there a help document on how to bring BING maps into Bentley Map SS4?
I've added a Video showing the step from generating the Bing Maps Key to creating the Workspace variable and attaching Bing Map using Raster Manager.
With Bing Map terms and conditions, are corporate users allowed to freely print and distribute Bing Map content in drawings?
Is it possible (within terms and conditions) to use one key for all corporate MicroStation users instead of each MicroStation user to create their own Bing Map account?
Thanks
Any movement on this? I see from a post in the MicroStation forum that I am not the only one who has this occurring...
Hi,
Yes, we are still looking into the issue but have yet to reproduce it from our side. I did personally see one developer that could not use Background Map upon view settings once on a non-official CONNECT Update 8 build but once he updated to the next version, everything worked correctly. We have not been able to reproduce any Raster Manager failure and virtually no code change has been made there between Update 7 and 8. We will try to discover the problem but without reproducing the issue it is difficult to diagnose.
If you look in the MicroStation Forum, there is at least one other person who is experiencing this issue... Is there any mechanism to turn on some type of "tracing" that may indicate where the issue lies?
Hi. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a mechanism to add additional tracing at the moment. After reviewing the implementation we believe we have an explanation. Since all other requirements are respected (being logged in, having a coordinate system defined etc) the other potential reason for failure would be usage of a proxy. Can you confirm whether your machine is configured to handle http requests through a proxy? If you normally go through a proxy and do not have direct access to the internet, this would explain the failure to connect and the error message. If that is the case then unfortunately the current Bing maps implementation will not work as it does not support proxies. I understand that it was working previously but the implementation seems to have changed. In the meantime, if you are working with Microstation you could possibly go back to Update 7 as a workaround.
Hi,As Martin explain above, we are very confident that we have found the problem. I can propose a work around that I think will temporary work. There is a Microsoft web site where you can generate a trial license. As far as I know, this license will last for 90 days. Please follow the steps below.Getting a Bing Maps Key:1) Create a new Microsoft Account with your e-mail address.2) Go to: http://www.bingmapsportal.com/3) Click “New User”.4) Sign-in using the Microsoft Account that is linked to your e-mail.5) Create a Bing Maps account.6) Once the Bing Maps Account is created, click on “Create or view keys”.7) Create a “Trial” key.Setup: 1) In MicroStation, create a new Configuration Variable named “MS_RASTER_BINGMAP_KEY”2) Assign the value of the Bing Maps Key to the configutation variable.3) You are ready to use Bing Maps.

Thanks you for the suggestion. This may be a temporary solution for myself, but it is not acceptable for every potential user at our company to do this. Are you planning to "fix" the Update 8 "change" so that it will work with proxies again?
Just tried in CONNECT 10.09.01.01 and still no Bing Map background(s). Has the proxy fix not been included yet?
