It does not appear that there is a way to drop XFM data to be regular Microstation elements. Also DXF exports fail. If I am wrong, please point me in the right direction. If this is in fact not an option please add it to the list of requested Improvements. There are a myriad or real world reasons this needs to be supported. Many users dabble with Map to get data in a usable from for other products and non-GIS workflows. Frankly they couldn't care less about the "GIS" functionality of the program.
The technology should be flexible enough to accommodate things like this. I currently have several thousand contours brought in from a .shp and set to their elevation. I need to get this to a .DXF.
Why is this not a few clicks?

You didn't write what version of Bentley Map do you use. In Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 3) export from XFM to MicroStation elements was introduced.
