Raster to vector conversion in descartes

Hi Ed,

This video is demonstrating how to extract vector from PDF : www.youtube.com/watch.

The basic problem with PDF its that they are true color and their resolution is not fixed since it is rendered by the PDF library we are using.

Note that true color could be directly vectorized using color mask instead of converting it to 2 color as shown in the video.

The clip didn't have any sound so I don't know if that caused some information to not be passed along, but I followed all the steps shown and was never able to get the software to do anything.

I found this post, I'm having similar issue, followed the steps in the video but Descartes says Raster Image is not in target area.

Is there a solutions?

Are you getting the “Raster image is not in target area” message when you try and convert your PDF image to a TIF image?
If you have Adobe Pro or Adobe Standard are you able to convert your PDF to a TIF image using Adobe?
Can you send us your PDF image? If so, please click on the attached link and download your image. If you are able to download your image please let us know when you have downloaded your file.

I'm getting the message when I try to convert area from raster to vector in Descartes raster edit, I did convert the PDF to TIF using Adobe Pro but I get the same message after I attach and follow the same raster to vector steps. I did upload my PDF to the link, file name is "Speed hump Detail".

I am looking at it right now. Your PDF is RGB. Did you create a color mask for it. I think it has to do will something's things in the PDF file like arrows that Vectorize cannot handle. I am still looking at it and will let you know what I find out.

I was able to convert your PDF file in Adobe and create a TIF image with a higher resolution (I set it to 600). Your image is Grayscale. I attached the TIF image and inverted it. I created a Color Mask and was able to Vectorize the TIF image. It did not vector the wide gray lines and the large gray fill areas. I also found that I could convert the image to Monochrome and do Vectorize the monochrome image. When I did the convert I lost the same areas that did not vectorize when I used the color mask. The solution is to either create a Color Mask or convert your I mage to Monochrome. Using Adobe you will get a better quality image to use for the Vectorization.
