I have two referenced SHP files - when I browse, they both show areas and perimeters. Yesterday, I was able to attempt an Overlay but I tried the entire area and eventually had to kill the process.
Today, I am working with clipped reference files to reduce the amount of processing. I also drew a polygon on its own level and added it to the map as a feature. I want to Overlay the two shape files and t overlay the single polygon with the results of the first overlay.
But I cannot get any pair of these to show the Overlay menu that is not grayed out.
This should not be this hard! Grrrrrrr!
I've written MDL, VBA and VB applications, MVBA projects, Excel macros and spreadsheets that were nothing short of amazing, created hundreds of alignments, templates, roadway models/corridors, customized workspaces. Heck, I can even fumble my way around Civil 3D & ArcMap.
Why can't I overlay a few sets of polygons to create a summary table?
This is what the menu looks like in the Map Manager, with two Layers Selected. Is this "doing it wrong?"

Hi, I have no clue on data model used here, but the Buffer and Overlay are disabled in 3D model. Regards, Sebastien Lefrancois [Bentley]
