Bentley Map tools for Feature to Line,Statistics, Convert Text to Annotation etc.

Hi,

The following are some of the tools, which are required frequently by us..

  •  Feature to Line
  • Feature to Polygon
  • Feature Vertices to Point
  • Polygon to Line
  • Multipart to Single part
  • Frequency / Statistics
  • Convert Text to Annotation

These tools are commonly found in ArcGIS , however we would like to know if these tools exist in Bentley system and if yes, please provide us the like to their documentation.

I tried to find these tools in Bentley Map and the documentation, but no luck. So,any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Kiran.

  • Map Manager contains most of what you need.  The topic in the Map Contents Help instructions is Map Management

The Export topic explains how to convert Map Features to MicroStation elements.

The Labeling option, once used, adds the Annotation menu item.  This will convert your text labels to Annotation.

Statistics can be seen using the Data Browser (Browse).

Once Multipart Features have been exported to MicroStation Elements, they can be dropped, changing them into their component parts.

  • HI Dan,

I looked into the options you suggested (in the Map Manager). However, I still was not able to locate the required tools, I might have missed something.

    1. I could not find Conversion tools like, Feature to Line, Vertices to Point, Feature to Polygon, Polygon to Line etc.

    2. In the Data Browser, I missed to find the Statistics tool ( like SUM, MAX or MIN etc.)

If you help me out further, it will be a great help for me.

    Thanks,
    Kiran.
  • Kiran,

The Export to MicroStation Elements command converts (Bentley Map) Features (roads, hydrants, parcels) to (MicroStation) elements (lines, points, polygons).  If you are in need of something more than this, then a custom application may need to be developed.  Here is the description from the HELP file:

    Export

Some workflows require the ability to save Bentley Map features as simple MicroStation elements for use in MicroStation or other applications that do not understand Bentley Map features. The Export tool can be used to export one or more layers to a simple MicroStation format without property data.

The Data Browser will SUM the number of instances in the list.  You can use the Save As... command to create a CSV file that can be further analyzed using Excel and other statistical analysis tools.
