Sync and editing Shapes File or GDB

Hi everybody.

I´m new with Bentley map, So there are many things which I dont know.

Fist thing I wanna do, is to edit an shapeFile or geodatabase.
The steps I´m following are:

1-
Open Microstation V8i, (ss3)
User:  geo_example_designer
Project Map Finishing
Interface: None
2-
Create a map.
FIle - Map Manager
3-
Atach shapefile.
4-
Right click in shapefile layer, and select "make active for editing"

But this doesnt work.
So I supose that I forgot something.

Other option I tried.

File -> Open Oracle Spatial.
Connections -> new Esri geodatabase connection.

But I don´t know how to display this on the screen, either modify this.

In addition I saw other tool in webinars  Where they use "Open graphical source NASH". But this option does not  appear

Anyone know how to edit a shapefile or gdb in Bentley Map ?

The target is, use the same shapefiles or GDB between Arcgis and Microstation (map, inroads...) in order to avoid copies.

I will appreciate any comment.

Lucas.

  • Lucas,

There is a difference in the way MicroStation & Bentley Map each accommodates Shapefiles in-that Bentley Map can "Import" the file as GIS Features, retaining the properties and attributes in a manageable way (i.e. edit both graphics & attributes).  MicroStation can Open, Reference, or Import both graphics and attributes as read-only.  Either way, once imported the contents are MicroStation elements or Map’s XFM Features, and after you edit anything you will need to use the Bentley Map "Export to Shapefile" command to incorporate those changes back into a file on disc - that's just the nature of Shapefiles, they are just a file on disc until you open/edit/export them from any software.  Use the File | Interoperability... dialog to import & export Shapefiles using Bentley Map:

ESRI's File Geodatabase (.gdb) can be imported from that same dialog box (as you show above), but use the New ESRI Geodatabase Connection… option instead of the Open GDBX File… item.  This is a two-way connection such that when you edit these graphics or attribute properties, the changes are reflected in the host data on the disc, no export required.

The Open File option you show above requires that you have already established a new connection, and saved the parameters for later use.  The Make Active For Edit... menu item is not necessary in this case.

If you have the older “Open Oracle Spatial” menu item in your Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 4) software, you may have a conflict in your software installation.  The menu item was changed to Map Interoperability in an earlier (SELECTseries) version:

If you are going to open the “geo_example_designer” Workspace that is delivered with the product, just leave the User, Project, and Interface as-is:

Otherwise just initialize Bentley Map using the executable in the Start Menu and the ‘msgeo’ User, or from an icon exported from a customized Workspace created by the Geospatial Administrator (like geo_example_designer).

See the “Interoperability” and "Working With Spatial Databases" chapters in the Bentley Map Help contents for more details.
