Good morning all, i am working in V8i and need to create a Key Map but looking for a better way with a better quality that shows township lines as well, does anybody know of a good way to get a good looking key map outside of google earth that will show township lines
Bentley Map includes options for Grids and Graticules, coordinate grid labeling, and other geographic coordinate system settings, but use of the Public Land Survey System is limited. The tools from the Advanced Map Finishing component could add even more cartography to your project. But you should be able to do all that you need with MicroStation.
There are public websites that include the Public Land Survey System (township & range) data in a format that MicroStation accepts. Start at the UGSG site: https://nationalmap.gov/small_scale/atlasftp.html#plss00p and if that isn't sufficient, just search online for the PLSS state data that you need. I used 7-Zip to unbundle the data once it was downloaded, then attached the Shapefile using the References Dialog for this screenshot. MicroStation labeling and text options can finish the product for you.
I haven't used Bentley Map at all would that help me more? Google earth wont help because it doesn't give us all the township lines, I have inserted what the key maps should look like, we need it to turn on like this...
Hello Noel,
Will be glad to help with your Key Map sheet. Can you provide some more details - what exactly would this 'Key Map' would look like? How is Google Earth involved? Are you using Bentley Map in addition to MicroStation?
There are a number of web sites that offer free data, here is one that may help: https://gis.ny.gov/gisdata/inventories/index.cfm?AlphaIndex=T
