Part of our work flow includes creating parcel geometry (alignments) within Microstation InRoads V8i. The alg file will contain scores of parcels that I want to add to ArcMap. Is there a way to export these into a shapefile? I also need the individual parcel names added as an attribute to the shape. I tried the export to landxml but ArcGIS will not read the geometry within the xml. Thanks for any help.
Check your Applications menu to see if there is an Activate Map item. If so, activate Bentley Map and use the File | Export... GIS Data Types dialog box to create the Shapefiles. The Export command is explained in the Bentley Map Help document.
You can edit the Shapefile's .dbf file using Microsoft Access to add the ParcelName column (see Edit Shapefile Columns PDF). Then import the Shapefile and use the Bentley Map editing tools, such as Edit XFM Feature, or the Data Browser (Locate Feature), or a Custom VBA application to add the parcel text labels as an attribute of the Parcel. Then Export to Shapefile once again.

You've posted to the Bentley Map Forum so Dan's response assumes that you are using Bentley Map. Are you solely an InRoads user, or do you have access to Bentley Map within your organisation?

a full Inroads License is coming with a integrated Map licence, IMHO.
