Hi all,
I have a series of ordnance survey data in the UK OS grid and I need to convert them to UK SnakeGrid. Is this possible within microstation? if so can someone illustrate to me how
thank you
Unknown said: I need to convert to UK SnakeGrid
MicroStation is widely used in the UK rail industry. SnakeGrid is a way of developing low-distortion coordinate systems for large engineering projects – in particular railways, highways and pipelines.
SnakeGrid Transformer is a MicroStation™ add-on that converts data between several different coordinate systems, including any required SnakeGrid as well as others such as the London Survey Grid, Ordnance Survey National Grid, and some local engineering site grids.

It should be noted that there is no single UK snakegrid rather there are snakegrids which are local to each project and can also be tied into other snakegrids. Typically (as Jon has mentioned) this would be to along a specific rail route or motorway etc... and each snakegrid requires its own unique snake grid parameters file which is loaded using by the conversion software and is created by University College London (UCL). My employer was going to purchase the aforementioned SnakeGrid Transformer however they opted instead for SnakeGrid Projector for FME Desktop as it was more useful to my employers Geotechnical Team who performed the necessary conversions when requested.
Thanks Barry. with respect to what you have hinted, how do one determine the exact SnakeGrid in a known geographical location
I would recommend that you contact Dr Steven Schooling ( s.schooling@uclb.com ) and he will likely be able to tell you if a snakegrid already exists or not for a specific location and give you any other answers to queries that you may have.
UK 'Snakegrid' systems are present in MicroStation CONNECT edition Update 12 onwards as keynames with the prefix EnglandHighway- .
