Hello.
I'm having some problems publishing an .imodel for Bentley Map Mobile.
I'm using MicroStation V8i (Ss4) version 08.11.09.838, Bentley Map V8i (Ss4) version 08.11.09.763 (for MicroStation) and I just installed Bentley Map Mobile Publisher version 05.05.02.218.
I was publishing an imodel for Map Mobile and it stopped with the following error dialog:
"Error protecting file:
[C:\Users\.....\Temp\[filename].i.dgn]"
And here is a clip from Message Center:
Does anyone know what the problem is?
Regards,
Bjorn
We saw a report of this a couple of years ago, try the High Security Map executable to initialize Bentley Map and see if that allows the process to complete. And please file a Service Request with us so that we can track-down the exact cause of the problem.
Hello Dan and thanks for the answer.
I filed a Service Request just now.
I have never initialized Bentley Map using the High Security Map executable. Can you give me a short description on how it's done?
Dan, has this error ever been resolved or the casue is known? I am facing the same error but only on OpenUtilities. However, same file, same computer, same user, opened in MapEnterprise is published with no problems. But when tried with OpenUtilities the same error appears. Tried HighSecurity as well as checked MS_SECURITY_LEVEL, no change.
I don't know that a Defect was filed to correct the problem, I will look into it.
It could be related to the version of Map that the OpenUtilities was built with -what version of OpenUtilities are you using? What version of Map Enterprise does the solution work in? We can compare to see if that may be the problem (fixed in a later OpenUtilities build).
Have you tried the Map Mobile Converter? This is a command-line tool that is installed with the Map Mobile Publisher, and includes all the functionality of the interactive Publisher, and more. See: https://bentleysystems.github.io/mapmobile-docs/ for details.
Never used Converter since I have always managed to do everything I needed via Publisher, but will have to try it.
Setup is as follows: Publisher latest version 05.05.04.13. Installed on a machine with Win10-64.
There are MapEnterprise 08.11.09.836, Map for MS (Map same version, MS 08.11.09.867) and OpenUtilities Map 08.11.09.880 - so three various platforms on the same computer.
Publisher is correctly integrated on all three platforms. Inside Map for MS and MapEnterprise puublisher works perfectly. Inside OU Map delivers listed error. It was tested on three different computers (same setup, same results), various files and data (same results) so it does not seem to be data related nor specific installation related since the behaviour is always the same.
Hi Dan,
I'm also interested in this topic since I'm facing the same problem. I've tried to publish simple dgn from Bentley OpenUtilities Map into iModel via command line Converter with same result.
Thanks in advance for any information.
Mladen
What is the specific error message, "error protecting file"? I've asked our OpenUtilities Map colleagues to test this for us as-well.
Dear Dan,
in Map Mobile Publisher installed correctly on OpenUtilities Map 8.11.09.880 the error is:
In command line Converter we have similar situation (without error message but imodel was not created)
HTH
I think the problem may be in the Shell that you are using for the Converter - don't use the MS DOS Cmd window, open the Map Mobile Converter shell using the Map Mobile Converter key-in in the Windows "Type here to search" field:
Then select the application from the list
Then issue the MapMobileConvert.exe command from the Bentley Map Mobile Converter window
Let us know if that works.
Bentley Map Mobile Converter (bentleysystems.github.io)
We've made some progress. iModel was created when I detach WMS raster in original DGN file (Dugave.dgn) and convert DGN into iModel (Dugave.imodel) using Map Mobile Converter Shell.
Many thanks for that. I'll explore other options from github as You suggested me.
Another and related question is: when original DGN file is converted into iModel, there is no defined Geographic Coordinate System like in original DGN file. Do You know anything about this problem? My intention is to work with iModel on the field using GPS to navigate me.
I even tried to add option for Converter "... --coordinate-system=EPSG:3765 ..." with same result.
Many thanks in advance.
Have you tried it out in the field on the mobile device?
Map Mobile format is not a DGN and probably would not support reading data i.e. GCS from an imodel "dgndb" as we would from a "dgn" file... the iModel "dgndb" is a read only format designed for the Map Mobile platform.... Try it with the Map Mobile application to see if the data is in the correct location.
I've converted DGN to iModel using this Command Line
On mobile device data are on correct coordinates but not on correct location. Let me explain...
Coordinates are ok (coordinates as numbers in EPSG:3765) but I can't turn on GPS ("...I'm outside of the map range.."), BingMaps won't show and driving directions shows I'm somewhere in Indian ocean - everything points that GCS definition is missing.
I ran out of ideas...
Kind regards,
