Hi. Is the a possibility to place Google maps pictures as a background to Stella Map without downloading a pictures to PC. I am using 3D WiN software right now and it is very useful to place a pictures try WMS straight from the servers. How to place them here in Stella Map?
Stella Map is built on MicroStation, which includes the Raster Manager. Raster Manager offers several types of image attachments, including WMS and Bing Maps. Bing Maps is comparable to Google maps, offering both Road and Satellite views. This is a DGN File in Stella Map using the Bing Aerial attachment:
The Raster Manager is available from the File menu, and includes these Attachment options:
This example shows the same DGN File with a WMS attachment:
The WMS Layers and Settings are controlled in the WMS Map Editor, also available from the Raster Manager:

In the CONNECT software, a Bing Map is treated as a Background option, that you can turn on and off using the View Attributes.
Do you have exact instruction how to attach Bing maps or WMS?
The steps to attach an image from a WMS Server are shown in this article: https://communities.bentley.com/products/3d_imaging_and_point_cloud_software/w/wiki/35278/attach-a-map-layer-from-a-wms-server
There is a FAQ to help understand the components of the Raster Manager Dialog on this page: https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/4179/raster-manager-in-microstation-v8i-faq
And the Raster Manager processes are defined in the MicroStation HELP document: https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/MicroStation%20Help-v14/en/RMRasterManager.html. Enter Search Term: WMS for more results.
Bing Map instructions vary depending on the version of software you are using. V8i (SELECTseries) tools required that you first generate a Key on the Microsoft Bing Maps site. The exact instructions are listed on this page: https://communities.bentley.com/products/geospatial/desktop/w/geospatial_desktop__wiki/27148/--bing-maps
And since Bing Maps is a Raster function, the steps are also listed in the MicroStation HELP Document on this page: https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/MicroStation%20Help-v14/en/GUID-E349623C-B31E-4837-9C86-AEB08DA89896.html
With the advent of the MicroStation CONNECT Edition, Bing Maps is now treated as a Background Map, which can be turned on and off using the View Attributes dialog box. Those exact instructions are also listed in the MicroStation HELP document: https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/MicroStation%20Help-v14/en/GUID-1648B029-47A4-4970-AC96-AC68B6BC41A2.html. The process to attach a Bing Map as a background takes four clicks:
1. <ctrl>b to display the View Attributes dialog box
2. Expand the Background Map tab
3. Select the Down-arrow on the Background Map Type field
4. Select one of the three Background Map Types (Street Map, Aerial, Hybrid)
