Application window BentleyMap always opens on same screen

Hi,

We currently have a problem with BentleyMap V8i (SS4). When working with several screens, the application window of BentleyMap always opens on the same screen even when the window was on another screen when closing BentleyMap. In other words, the location of the window isn't saved on exit.
This seems to occur with some of our colleagues and apparently only on Windows 10. Location toolbars (docked and floating) seem to be saved correctly, problem is purely the application window.

There are no reading/writing problems with the upf. Save settings on exit is ON.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Several of us have tried this, both with the Map V8i and CONNECT Editions and cannot reproduce the problem.    Is this a new installation, or has it been on the PC since a previous version of Windows?  Try adding the -restoredefaults command line argument to the executable that you use to initialize the application.  Does that change the behavior?  How are you initializing Map?  From the Start Menu, a desktop icon, double-clicking on a DGN File?  Other?  Change to some other way to see if that makes a difference.  How are you closing Map, File | Exit? Selecting the Close X on the top-right?  Other?  Change to some other way to see if that makes a difference.

There are a lot of variables involved in diagnosing a problem such as this.  Application settings & Windows settings are numerous.  Have the User's Display Settings been customized in any way? Try changing the setting for "Multiple Displays" in the Windows Display Settings - does that change the screen where Map opens?

Do other applications behave this way too?  Where does Excel or Word open after it's screen has been changed?  Always the same screen, or to the new screen?

If all else fails, a very quick way to change the monitor/screen that an application opens on is with the keyboard's Windows+Shift+R Arrow keys.  Initialize Map, then press Win+Shift+R, multiple times if you have to to set the app on the proper screen.

Are the Users Windows 10 Updates current?

  • While not a solution to the problem (please do respond to Dan's inquiries above), you might ameliorate the issue in the interim by using windows hotkeys / keyboard shortcuts.   Using the combination WIN + (arrow) you can quickly 'bounce' an application between screens, max/halve/quarter their footprint on a given screen.   After a little experimentation it falls to hand easily for those who prefer keyboard shortcuts to mouse-dragging.

  • Dan & Nelson,

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately this has not solved the problem. To answer your questions:

    * This is a new Windows installation
    * "-restoredefault" does not solve the problem or change the behaviour
    * BentleyMap is initialized through a shortcut in Start that refers to MapStandalone.exe on C:\Program Files (x86). Initializing directly from Program Files doesn't change the behaviour
    * Tried closing with "X" as well as through menu
    * Tried changing the settings for multiple displays by changing the main display
    * Excel and Word open on the screen where it was closed, so they work as expected. The issue seems to only occur with BentleyMap
    * Windows update are current
