GPS configuration

I'm trying to get a u-blox GPS sensor equipped tablet to connect to map power view. I have changed the GPS units output to 'GPS' which includes the GPGGA, GPRMC and GPGSA output sentences but neither map power view or the GPS Record application will connect. The output is being directed to COM3 and the port opens successfully. I can use the configuration application for the GPS chip to view and filter the output and those sentences mentioned above are being sent to COM3. The documentation does not mention the NMEA version that Bentley products use could this be an issue? Any other ideas? Google earth sees the output and zooms to the GPS location with no problem so I know the unit is working.

  • Bentley products based on MicroStation recognize GPS devices connected using the serial protocol that send NMEA (or strings), Garman USB, or Windows Location Services.  If the device is detected, the red indicator light will turn green

Does the u-blox device offer to create a file?  Map (MicroStation) supports file playback too.

  • It will export a kml file but I don't think i will export any others. Here is a snip of 2 secs worth of the text stream coming from the receiver.

The tablet is inside a building right now so the signal is weak. Does the app care how good or bad the signal is?

  • I tested with the connect version of map and it did not work. Map mobile did work. I created an SR 7000924837 for this issue.
