What is OracleSpatial for Microstation

Hello everyone,

I don't know what is oracle spatial as RDBMS that is used in Bentley Geospatial products. I haven't tried and used this because I really don't know exactly this thing about and how to use it. I only used Microsoft Access for our database for Microstation. Our office is using Oracle 10g for our costumers' database.

My Questions would be:

1. Can we use our existing oracle 10g as the oracle spatial database?

2. Do we need to buy another licence for oracle spatial?

3. Do we need a separate server for oracle spatial database?

4. Can we link our existing oracle database to our existing Microstation drawings?

Our office is planning to buy new version of Microstation and Bentley map to upgrade our old MSSE and geographics.. anybody  from Bentley can explain regarding this query.

thanks

  • Oracle Spatial is a set of tables and engine that resides in teh Oracle application set for storing, retrieving and processing spatial data ( attributes and graphics). See the Oracle Web Page for further details about Oracle Spatial.

    Now for your questions.

    1. If you have he Enterprise edition, Spatial is included. You need to load it using the Oracle Universal Installer.

    2. No additional license needed if you hav ethe Oracle enterprise edition.

    3. No seperate Server, but the spatial indexing, retrieval and posting will add a strain on the database server you now have.

    4. Yes you can link them. There is a couple of ways and this is explained in the Bentley Map documents.
