Interoperability OpenCitiesMap/OpenRail

Hello everyone

I exported an .shp file and a .tab file from OpenCitiesMap.

At this point, I create a new .dgn file in OpenRail Designer and in the "Attach Reference" panel, I add one of the two files exported from OpenCitiesMap.

The newly referenced file reports the information created in OpenCitiesMap but I lose the symbolism (colors, line styles, layer structure.)

Is there a way not to lose the graphic styles?

  • Hi Davide,

I exported an .shp file and a .tab file from OpenCitiesMap.

You should be aware of SHP format features: It's a plain geometry format (point, line string, polygon) with DBF without any information about symbology stored (because in GIS, the symbology is the result of analysis / visualization, not data feature). So when SHP format is used, no symbology can be shared (or it has to be shared in parallel in some other way).

Is there a way not to lose the graphic styles?

I do not quite understand why you choose SHP format to share data between two Bentley products?

Why the data are not shared in DGN format?

    Regards,

  • Well
I'll try to explain my workflow more comprehensively

First I create a new file in OpenCitiesMap and, through the Interoperability tool, I insert a shape file downloaded from the internet.
Once I have imported the shapefile, through the Map Manager tool, I customize the symbolism of each shape.

At this point I create a new file in OpenRailDesigner and through the command "Attach Reference" I add the file previously produced in OpenCitiesMap. When I add the file in the format .dgn I lose both the symbolism and the information.

When I add the file in the format .shp I lose the symbolism but not the information that remains stored in the form of "item"

Back in OpenCitiesMap I have another problem with the production of Drawings.
When I produce a drawing, I lose all symbols created through the "Map Manager" tool.

I hope I've been as clear as possible.
I thank you in advance for your help,

    Davide
