  • Jerry is right ! You have to provided info, but if you don't create any schema in GSA (GeoSpatial Adminitsrator) or you use a provided user by Map (msgeo for example) and you need some tools from Command Manager, you can retrieved it by Tools>Geospatial>Utilities toolbar. Here, you can retrieve Analyze, Edit and Porperty Navigator(XM)/Data Browser(V8i) tools. To Place or Edit a XFM feature, you must be define by a method in a schema by GSA.

  • I did not create a XFM project, i was however able to open the sample geo project and see the command manager.  If I understand this correctly, to enable GIS functionalities one must start with defining a project in GSA.  Set up all the necessary topology, database parameters etc before we can do data editing in bentley Map.

    Thanks again for your help

  • You are correct, that you did get the Command Manager with the sample geo project, but this was created using the Geospatial Administrator (GSA). If you look in the MicroStation Workspace folder for /projects/examples/geospatial/geo_example/xml folder, you will see all the folders/files that the GSA generates for you from the information defined in the GSA. This information (along with some other resource files) drives Bentley Map in the XFM project mode. Most of these are XML files and are human-readable, but there are many files and it is hard to grasp them all, so the cleanest way to understand this is using the GSA.

If you are using Bentley Map v8i, then there is a excellent on-demand course ( Why do I say excellent, well I created it ...., that's why) on the Bentley Learn server called Introduction to Bentley Map v8i Geospatial Administrator . It is 2 hrs in length and steps you through all the basic features of the GSA needed to set up Point, Linear, and Polygon features.

  • Jerry is right (again) .. .this course is a good way to start to learn about GSA (especially to understand how to use it!) . It would have been helpfull for me if it had exist when I begun to work with Geospatial Administrator !!! I finally refer all my colleagues who want to learn more about it ... thanks Jerry !
