can I replace x86 version of Bentley Open Cities Map PowerView to x64?

Hi,

I kindly ask for your help. Accidentally, I have installed the x86 version of the software and the product activation was successful. Later I realized that I will need the x64 version to be installed. The administrator at our company doesn't want to remove the soft and download the x64 version because he is afraid of getting in troubles with the licensing. Is there a solution how to replace the x86 version of Bentley product to x64 version without losing the license?

Thank you very much for your help.

  • Hi Peter,

at first, please respect the best practices and always specify exact product name and version (build number) you use. Otherwise it's more about "I guess" than providing simple answers.

I have installed the x86 version of the software

Of what software? There is no x86 version of OpenCities Map PowerView available. 32bit versions are named Bentley Map (or Bentley Map PowerView), and the product,  after it was released in CONNECT Edition version, was renamed.

Later I realized that I will need the x64 version to be installed.

It's not about x86 (32bit) OR x64 (64bit) variants of the same version, but about different versions (consequent in time). The last 32bit version was Bentley Map PowerView (SELECTseries 10), I think it was build 08.11.09.923. Current version is 64bit OpenCities Map PowerView CONNECT Edition Update 6, build 10.06.01.06.

and the product activation was successful.

V8i SELECTseries 10 and CONNECT Edition products are not activated, as previous versions were, so it's not clear what you did.

If you installed older version, based on SELECTserver activation key (versions V8i (SELECTseries 4) and older), it does not provide any information whether your company also owns product SES license, used in above mentioned versions. SES license is counted against user accounted, logged in CONNECTION client.

Is there a solution how to replace the x86 version of Bentley product to x64 version without losing the license?

When not checked out, but used online, no license is lost. But it has to be checked by your IT administrator, what license is available for you. When you have SELECTserver / OpenAccess / ... contract signed, it's not limited to specific product version(s), so you can freely migrate from one version to another (or even to use both V8i and CE versions at the same time).

    With regards,

      Jan

  • Thank you very much for your answer Jan. Here I will try to do my best to specify the details.

    1. I installed Bentley Map PowerView V8i SELECTseries 10 (SES) version 08.11.09.923. This was the 32bit English language version

    2. I had to install an MDL app which required the base program installed in x64.

3.The x64 version I want to use is OpenCities Map PowerView CONNECT Edition x64 (SES) Update 4 version 10.04.00.42 Czech language

I am confused how is the license checked and what version of the Bentley product suit my expectations. Now I have installed the Czech language version of the software and after few minutes of running I recieve a Term License Nortification. There is mentioned I can be charged for using the application. There is a fear of beinch charged for not properly licensed program. The install instructions mention CONNECT Licensing-enabled applications activation therefore I followed the steps there, just accidentally installed the English 32bit version of progam instead of 64bit.

Now the question is, should i ignore the Term License Notification and use the program offline?

    Thank you for your help.

    Peter

  • Peter,  Thank you for the details explaining your licensing situation.  OpenCities Map PowerView CONNECT licenses are the exact same as Bentley Map PowerView V8i licenses so there shouldn’t be any need to do anything special when the software is upgraded from V8i to CONNECT.

Both of these versions utilize the Subscription Entitlement Services (SES) for software activation, so that process should be followed for proper configuration and authorization.  See: https://communities.bentley.com/products/licensing/w/licensing__wiki/37813/steps-and-information for complete details.  Should you need further assistance we can continue supporting you through a Service Request to ensure your specific account and contract details are in-order.  This will provide the administrator at your company the assurance he needs that everything is working properly and effectively.
