Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 1) Commercial Release

All,

I'm pleased to announce that the Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 1) Commercial Release is now available for immediate download on SELECTservices Online. If you have not done, please register for and watch the Be Connected "Bentley Map V8i and Bentley PowerMap V8i Update" presentation. Following is a list of new and/or improved functionalities:

  • Spatial Overlay Reporting - The spatial overlay process has been enhanced with the ability to report and/or query the business properties contained in the results from an overlay process. Upon completion of an overlay, the business properties contained in the resulting layer can be reviewed using the "Data Browser" application or queried using the "Search" form.
  • Grid Editing - The "Data Browser" application has been enhanced to support grid based editing of business properties.
  • Labeling - A new "Labeling" command has been added to the "Map Manager" application which provides the ability to create dynamic text labels for selected map layers. The labels can be defined using any valid PBA (Property Based Annotation) expression.
  • Annotation - A new "Annotation" command has been added to the "Map Manager" application which provides the ability to convert dynamic labels to persistent text annotations.
  • Joins - The ability to join feature classes on common business properties has been added.
  • Interoperability > Point Feature Import Enhancements - The "Import" process of the "Interoperability" application has been enhanced for point feature classes to support the use of business properties to define text annotation expressions, text angle, XYZ scales and Z elevations.
  • Interoperability > GML Import / Export - The "Interoperability" application has been enhanced to support import and export of GML files.
  • DFS Orphan Cell / Polygon Collection Support - The DFS (Dynamic Feature Scoring) system has been enhanced to provide support for orphan cells.
  • Display Labels - The "Label" property for a feature class definition is now used throughout the user interface providing improved use of special and/or accented characters in feature class and business property names.
  • Polygon Split / Merge - For polygon maintenance, new polygon split and merge commands have been added.
  • Promote Feature Method - A new "Promote" method has been added to the "Bentley Geospatial Administrator" application which provides the ability to convert plain MicroStation elements to native XFM feature instances.
  • Improved "Spatial Overlay" Performance - Performance of spatial analysis operations such as overlay and buffer processing has been improved. In addition, a user definable tolerance is provided in the user interface for buffer creation.
  • Geometric Properties - For line and polygon feature classes, new geometric properties such as area, perimeter and length are now available as standard business properties.
  • Schema Defined Formatting Rules Enhancements - Use of schema defined formatting rules for text and label generation is now possible.
  • 3D Smart Editing - A set of new "3D Smart Editing" tools have been added for capture and manipulation of 3D solids. During manipulation of the 3D solids the business properties are preserved.
  • Oracle Spatial 3D Objects Support - The ability to store 3D feature instances in Oracle Spatial 3D as Oracle Multi Surfaces has been added. This capability allows storing complex building objects in a standard RDBMS which can be useful when managing extremely a large 3D City Model.
  • Oracle Spatial / MicroStation Design Links - Support For Oracle Spatial interoperability, the ability to round trip MicroStation design links has been added.
  • i-model Publishing Support - The ability to publish an i-model containing XFM business properties has been added.

Regards,

Jeff Bielefeld [Bentley]
