Microstation vs. PowerMap/Microstation PowerDraft in saving as dxf

Hello all,

I have a problem when i am trying to save a shape created in dgn workmode in PowerMap (with smart line command) in dxf.

The problem is that if i am using Microstation and i am saving the dgn as dxf the shape it is recognized as closed element but if i am using PowerMap it is not recognized. - This test i did it myself.

However, the 3rd party, which is a client of mine has licenses only for PowerMap and they cannot use MicroStation. More they have hundreds of thousands of dgn files which need to be converted in dxf, as at the end of their work flow uses a soft which only read dxf shapes.

Those anyone know why is the difference between Microstation and PowerMap and how can this be fixed?

Also which is going to be the future of the dxf format created by PowerMap as it varies from one version to another?

Thanks all.

  • Is the same file being saved differently or is it a matter of a shape drawn in PowerMap is not saving the same way as a shape drawn in MicroStation?

  • There are options to the Save As dialog box that can easily be set differently from one PC or software to another. I suspect that the setting for dealing with converting closed shapes is the issue. Look under Entity Mapping - Filled, 2D Unfilled and 3D Unfilled.

You may have to experiment with different settings to find the correct one.

  • Keith: Yes, it is the same file which I have saved as dxf both with PowerMap and MicroStation. I also drawn a shape in PowerMap as well as in MicroStation (creating new dgns in both sws) and as long as it is dgn it is the same but when I am saving the file in dxf (does not matter with which software it was created -PM or MS-) there are some difference between PM and MS.
Keith, if you have the time please take a look at ST 8000740761.

Caddcop: I checked and rechecked the options in the Save As dialog box and I don't think I had different settings.
