Hi all
I am using Bentley Map 08.09.04.78 and am trying to export to ESRI shape file.
Is there a "stroke tolerance" when exporting arcs? The tolerance (distance between original arc and stroked line string) appears to vary. Maybe it is a fixed angle of swept arc?
My problem is that small radius arcs give a reasonable approximation of the curve but large radius arcs do not.
I have tried varying the stroke tolerance in Preferences > Topology but this makes no difference to the resultant shape file.
In GeoGraphics I used to create a topology layer with arcs stroked to the appropriate tolerance before exporting but I cannot find this functionality in Bentley Map.
Can anyone help?

David,
Bentley Map uses a variable to define the stroke tolerance. This tolerance is defined by the Bentley Map variable ECSDK_GEOMETRY_STROKING_TOLERANCE. It represents the maximum distance between the actual element and the approximating line in master units.
See the HELP file under "Exporting CAD to GIS" for details.

Thanks Dan this works well.
I would be happy if this value was set from the Stroke tolerance under Workspace > Topology > Tolerance.
Also if this is not set the tolerance varies depending on the arc radius which is rather strange.
Lastly the help for XM version does not include this information. (Maybe a good reason to upgrade to V8i)
Thanks for your prompt response
