Hi everyone.
Can someone help!
First of all, I am a bit new to working with terrain/height data models.
I have been asked to create a model of a highway (which is at quite a gradient, so needs height data) showing various options for pavements/sidewalks, barriers etc.
I have 2m height data in the form of *.asc files. I am unfamiliar with this format. Is it possible to import these files into V8i? The vendor states they can be used with AutoCAD - I assume that there is a Bentley progam that can do the same?
I don't necessarily need to edit the file, but want to use it as a reference.
I am a Select subscriber - Is there an application (such as Bentley Map) that I could download and use.
Thanks
John Elliott
Hi John,
have you tried ot open the file with an ASCII editor (Notepad or Notepad++)? The data may just be XYZ data. If it is, any of the Bentley Civil products will be able to import the data and create a DTM from it.
IHow large are these files?
f you like, you could post one of the files here (or send it to me directly) and I'd be happy to take a look and see what I can work out.
Might be best to ZIP the file/s first.
Thanks Micheal, you're a star!
I take it from the time of your reply that you are in the UK. I will try and forward a file to you (they're @ 2 Megs) but I'm a bit under the cosh at a client's at the moment.
I'll try to do as you instruct this evening, or send one over when I get a moment.
Regards
John
Bentley InRoads software supports the.Arc/INFO ASCII Grid files (.asc). So does the FME Extension to Bentley Map, through the Safe Software ESRI ASCII Grid Reader/Writer.
