Is there any tool or utility to convert existing parcel poligons with centroid texts (lot numbers) into Bentley Map features automatically?
I have a lot of plain dgn files (more than 1000) and I would like convert them into Bentley Map features. The only way I found that I created a "Promote" command in Administrator. But with this I cannot figured out how can I "promote" parcel polygons with centroid texts as property value.
So, i have 2 elements in a plain dgn file:
- 1 polygon: parcel boundary
- 1 text: parcel number
And I would like to convert them automatically:
- 1 parcel feature
- 1 value of parcel feature number
So, there isn't any solution to import my existing dgn files to Map (xfm) project and convert elements to features automatically? Without this I think Bentley Map is very useless for any project where data already exists. And as I know every spatial projects today means upgrade / convert existing - old tech - data into the new system.
Anyway, with the acient Bentley Geographics I could convert plain drawings into features by levels. So as I see Bentley's programmers were much more smart many years ago. Where these guys now? :)
Hi. I guess some people may be on vacation these days, which could explain the slower response rate on the forums.
As you have found you can use the promote tool to quickly convert graphics into features. However as you point out this will not handle your case with a text inside the polygon which must become a property of the feature. In that case you could write a small program, either in VBA or MDL, that would use the Microstation and Bentley Map apis to find the appropriate elements and create the necessary features.

From the sound of your question, the answer most likely would be a two-part, or multi-part process. "A tool", or "a utility" might best be accomplished by writing a VBA app like Martin suggests.
Bentley Cadastre functionality provides the capability to label parcels with their lot numbers. This functionality is also included in Bentley Map Enterprise V8i (SELECTseries 2).

Your situation can be solve easily without using any addon programs in VBA or MDL because the solution is already within the current functionality of Bentley Map.
1. First I would like know what version of BM are you using?
2. How are you going to present it, in Database or dgnXFM?

Let me answer to your questions in order to get an answers.
1. BM V8i SS2
2. We have plain DGN file with lines and text inside. Topologicaly we did intersections, gaps, overshoot, and so forth. Validate topology too. Everything is fine.
2.1. We want to "build" polygons from lines and convert text inside as bussines properties of each polygon. First, we want to do this as XFMDGN with and/or without defined xfm schema (Geospatial Administrator). When we biuld polygons we can easily save them as Shapefile.
2.2. Same thing when we are connected to OracleSpatial database... but basically lines and text are still in plain DGN file.
