export 3D buildings to 3D shape file in Bentley Map SS2

Hi,

I have 3D building features (Smart Solid with attributes) in Bentley Map and I want to export them to 3D shape file (multipatch or polygonZ).

I've tried to do this by Export via FME but it doesn't work properly. I've got good attribute table but in ArcGIS Scene I have no geometry or there are only some single faces(polygons) of my buildings.

I've made my building features as is written in BM Help with promote method. First I had dropped my smart solid geometry to surfaces, then I selected appropriate polygons and created XFM features with promote method. Next I stitched them to XFM 3D Solid.

I thought that maybe is something wrong with geometry of my buildings. But I have also tried to export only geometry of my 3D buildings (before adding attributes and converting them to XFM features) and the export to 3D shape file via FME works properly. I've got all buildings (polygons) in ArcScene.
I have also different 3D XFM features (like land use) which are build from 3D polygons (triangles) and have attributes and they export properly. I have problems only with my buildings...

So, maybe someone has idea what why my XFM features buildings don't export properly?
I also ask for any sugestion/help with export to 3D shape file.
Or maybe is there any easy way to join/merge 3D geometry with attribute table to make one feature in ArcGIS? (I'm not very familiar with ArcGIS)

(I work with Bentley Map SS2 and ArcGIS 10)

Ula

  • Hi Ula,

    Good day.

The export 2.5D shapefile should work for both Bentley Map internal export function or with FME integration.

To view the exported file in ArcScene, i found that 1 more step in required in that platform based on my limited knowledge about it.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Beh,

I didn't know about this required step in ArcScene. Now, when I've converted 3D layer with buildings to feature class by 3D Analysys Tools, my buildings look good in ArcScene!

I had to export my buildings via FME (internal (2.5D) export dosen't work with my buildings). It's probably because I have buildings on non-flat terrain. But with export via FME and conversion in ArcScene it works fine.

    Thank you, again :)

    Regards, Ula
