Bentley Map V8i paper scale setting??

I am working with map files in V8 XM and will be switching to Map V8i later this year.  All of our current map .dgn files are set with a certain paper map scale (ie. 500,000).  In my current configuration when I open the coordinate system dialog box I can see and edit the coordinate system, map origin, and paper scale.  When I bring my .dgn file and open it with map V8i and open the coordinate system dialog box there is no longer an option for paper scale.  Can someone tell me where the paper scale setting are now located?  Thanks

  • Hi,

There is no Paper Scale Concept in V8i anymore. Paper Scale used to be in XM and that’s been changed in V8i Series.

Paper scale concept was typically useful when we have to take plots at different scales like 1:500,000 or 1:250,000.

Now in Map V8i, you would have the ability to place same cell element at different scales in one dgn file, so no need to create different cells at different scales. There is a Plot Scale option which allows this kind of workflow. Ideally for a particular Map, we would not tamper with different scales.

    This is a test

  • Can you advise what dialog box you are using to set the coordinate system, map origin, and paper scale?

  • I am currently using bentley map xm.  The dialog box is Master Coordinate System.  There is no equivelent in V8i map. The key in to initiate this box is not a valid command in V8i as well.

However, there is a coordinate library in V8i map you can set up coordinate information but no place to enter Paper Scale.  Building a new .dgn with V8i using the same coordinate information as an existing .dgn will place my data in the correct location, the only problem is my new scale is 1 instead of 400,000 like my old .dgn.  If I reference these two files you can see they are not the same scale

Hopefully there has to be some way to maintain paper scale in V8i.  If there is absolutely no way to do this,   Bentley should provide migration solutions for customers that need to move from a defined scale, to a scale of 1.

Our biggest problem lies in the fact that we have thousands of files developed to a paper scale with dependencies set on working units and units of resolution (UOR's).  On top of that we have secondary programs that export the .dgn file to ascii or bin formats which expect the file to have this same predefined scale.  If we cannot find a way to maintain the paper scale setting in some way, it is going to be a very large project to document, mitigate, and transition to a new scale setting.

  • As Sebestan had said the functionality for this has been removed from map and placed into Plain ' ole Microstation. As a matter of fact, the UORS and working units you are talking about has been depreciated from Miicrostation for a long time, since the V8i file format, came to the market years ago. On the API level we still honor the OURS, but the TCB for that has been depreciated also. Thus the use of UORS is no longer needed. Can I ask if you can send one of the sample files (XM version ) along and we can take a look at it.

  • So I guess the quick question for now would be, where in Plain ' ole Microstation can I set paper scale?

I will look into getting a file and following up more later.
