Features get deleted on file close

Hi,

If I create Oracle features without being connected to the DB I can leave the file and return with all my features still there.

If I'm connected to the database when I close the file I get the message "You have unsaved features... Would you like to post these changes now?". If I say No at this time the features will not be in the file when I return. Not wanting to post them is NOT the same thing as not wanting to have them at all!

Why can't I close the file and return later to continue editing if I'm connected to the DB?

  • Krister,

Once connected to Oracle Spatial those newly created feature instances are seen as potential inserts into the remote repository. By default Bentley Map works in short transaction mode, meaning that changes must be posted or discarded when the session terminates. Use of Bentley Map Enterprise or Bentley Map with access to a Geospatial Server client license provides support for long transactions and Oracle Workspace Manager, allowing unposted changes to persist across session boundaries.

I hope this helps to explain the observed behavior.

  • It explains the behaviour but the users find it a bit confusing (me too). The problem is that the user don't necesserily know if they are connected or not, so sometimes they can leave the file and sometimes not.

Either the message should be clear about that the changes will be deleted  if not posted (yes, they will eventually get it) or perhaps an configuration variable that  could change the short transaction  behaviour?
