Our GIS folks recently "upgraded" our data in the ESRI "SDE" database from SDO_GEOMETRY format to SDE_GEOMETRY format. We *used* to read the data via Bentley Map and a "read-only" Oracle connection. We have not tried since the internal Oracle format was "updated". Can data in SDE_GEOMETRY be read like this, or does it now require ProjectWise and a Data Connector?
Thanks,
Bruce
Correct in that sense, but if the user was also going to use the Connector, they would have to revert back to the SS2 version of Bentley Map, since the files generated by the connector will not be editable in the SS3 version of Bentley Map, unless they do a conversion on the files to move it up to SS3. This was the reason for my comment about the version does not matter here. Sorry for the confusion.
The version does make a difference here since 8.11.9.76 was a pre-release evaluation version. Dan's comment is correct, you must upgrade to 08.11.09.91 which is the official V8i SELECTSeries 3 release.

Since you will not go the route of the connector soon, then the version of Bentley Map will not make much of a difference. As Dan suggested, you may have to go the shapefile route or get the GIS group to change back to the Oracle Standard.
Bruce,
That xx.09.76 version was a pre-release to (SELECTseries 3) v08.11.09.91. Recommend that you download and install the released version. If this is an upgrade from (SELECTseries 1), note that the Product ID has changed, and your Bentley Account Manager will need to file a change order for you so that the new ID is reflected in your Licensing/account details.
ESRI s/w will be able to export the basemap data you need in Shapefile format. MicroStation can open/reference/import Shapefiles. You would need Bentley Map to Export to Shapefile. The FME Desktop interface in Bentley Map may provide a more robust import/export option if you want to go that route.

I've got version 8.11.9.76 (doesn't open - says 30 day trial expired, but I've got a license...)
Don't really want to go the ProjectWise/Connector route, as we're not using ProjectWise currently (have it, but not using it), and we don't have a license for the Connector. We're probably NOT going to be modifying the data - just want to be able to extract it for "base/background data".
Thanks for the info/reply.
