WFS in Bentley Map creates strange Cells for regions with holes

Hi

First of all the Wfs client in build 107 works much better, and now we can retrieve data from the National Survey's many Wfs services. Thanks a lot for that. Now it is a great tool.

Then, sadly, we ran into a strange behavior (error?). When the Wfs server sends a Surface with Interiors we dont get a GroupHole nor the new Polygon element (element 107) instead we get an' unmarked' orphan Cell with two or more shapes. All shapes are marked Solid. If we use Fill the whole figur is filled and even worse the area in the property Geometry_area is the SUM of all shapes.

Please look at this exampel. data is cadastre data from a wfs service at Kortforsyningen.dk in Denmark

Here we a parcel that is totally road

If we look in the Information it looks like this: an orphan Cell, not a GroupHole nor a Polygon element:

at last we look at the properties. Property VejAreal is the registred area of that road in the cadastre it is 3215 squaremeters, but the element has an area of 10434 square meters.

This strange behavior renders the wfs-client almost useless for us. Are there anything we can do except fill in a bug-report :-(

I have attach a small cutout from the designfile containing this exanpel

  • Hi Erik. Microstation doesn't really care, a "polygon" can be drawn many different ways. The simplest form would be a shape element if there are no holes for example. For Bentley Map, a Polygon Collection is what you should really have so all seems good now.

A note on the authentication: When you type the username and password in the connection dialog, these are used to negotiate the authentication with the web server. If the WFS server requires the user and password as URL parameters, it's because it doesn't use the IIS (or other web server) HTTP authentication method, it uses its own internal authentication.

Happy to see it works now.

  • Hi Martin

Wierd things truely!. Yesterday I had some troubles making the connection to Kortforsyningen, and when I susscced I got that strange result.

Today when you asked for the connection information I had problems again until I stoped placing the login and password in the dialog box, and instead added those into the url. Then everything connected smooth and nice.

So here is the url. I know that Bentley has got a login and password for Kortforsyningen for testing. I cannot write them here (I am sure Keith have them)

    http://kortforsyningen.kms.dk/service?servicename=mat_gml2&service=WFS&version=1.0.0&login=####&password=****

    But most strange!

Today I get nice Polygon elements !!! just as it should be !!

I thought of something -how does a polygon element look like for a normal MicroStation? like an ophan cell with shapes ??

    Thanks anyway

    I will keep on testing

    Regards

    Erik

  • First of all, thanks for the good words Erik. I agree this looks like a weird result. I'm afraid the only way for us to understand what happened will be to connect to that WFS server and see what we get back for that particular object. I presume I can find the region to query from the attached dgn. Can you give us the necessary information to connect to the WFS server ?

    Thanks,
