When I create a PrintPrepOutput model from my MapModel, it seems like the Map Manager symbology comes over seamlessly at first, taking into account any changes I may have made (e.g. Source to Thematic symbology). However, after I move or scale a ref file within the Print model (border file), the Map Manager symbology appears to revert back to the workspace configuration settings, and any customized thematic symbology I used in the MapModel is lost. Is there a config variable that needs to be turned on/off so that I can maintain the Map Manager thematic symbology used in the MapModel?
I have a client-provided workspace configuration setup.
I've some problem to reproduce the behavior you have described. I can move, manually scale (I mean using the reference scale icon), change symbology in the model I've created the Print Preparation, and I got the edited symbology in the Print Preparation model. The design element I've played with are for now line and filled polygon.
"Is there a config variable that needs to be turned on/off". The answer is no.
So, not sure what happens here. We might need to know a little more on your workflow or data ? Would it be possible to share something ?

What seems to be happening is any layers that used Thematic Symbology are reverting back to Source Symbology as setup in the workspace configuration. Why would a scale, move, or clip that occurs while within the PrintPrintOutput Model cause this to happen? It seems like some setting is causing this to happen.
I am unable to share data due to its sensitivity.
Let me know what you get as behavior using my simple dataset that I've posted here. Also, I've done a short video where you can see that I can't reproduce what you are talking about. Or instead of using my test case, you can build your own, up to you.
