I've been downloading some simple tree models for free from the internet. They all look good enough for use in a small project made in our model of the town center in OpenCities Planner.
Problem is they all loose their texture when bringing them into our plan. I've learnt that I should create a zip-file including the texture with the model itself but after doing that in several different applications I only see them fail when imported in OpenCities Planner.. They all appear in the project missing their surface/texture.
Does anyone know how to handle such simple 3D-objects before being imported - and make them keep theír texture?
Regards, Anders Theodorsson, Ludvika Municipality GIS-office
Hi Anders,
We have tree 3D models that we can share with you and use them in OpenCities. Lightweight and semirealistic.
Since textures are included and we know it is compatible to OpenCities, it is ready to be imported and used in any project of yours. This way, you can avoid any issues created when you try to keep the texture in your own file.
If interested in using them instead, let me know so we can forward the .zip file to your email address.
Hello Dorothea - and thank you for such a quick and generous answer.
I would sure like to try the 3D-models you offer, it is too kind of you!
Of course I would have wished to solve the problem and be able to download and use models available on the internet. But that may be next thing to focus on.
My email is: anders.theodorsson@ludvika.se
In order to assist you while trying to include textures and why it is not working properly, please send us a Support ticket, mentioning your project and layer, so we can have a look on what could be off, causing this failure.
