PLAXIS 2D and 3D for Tunnels and Underground Excavations | In-person workshop | Sept 26+27

Join us in this instructor-led course to learn the fundamentals of modelling mechanized and conventional tunnels in both PLAXIS 2D and 3D. This in-person training organised in partnership with GHD will review the most-common practical aspects of modelling tunnel excavation in soil and rock.

When: September 26 + 27
Where: Toronto, Canada

Registration and info: Seequent events

This 2-day instructor-led course considers the latest development in Tunnelling Applications.

The course content will include:

  • Mastering the fundamentals of modelling mechanised and conventional tunnels in both PLAXIS 2D and 3D,
  • Optimally choosing the Finite Element (FE) model input parameters (constitutive behaviour, equivalent deconfinement levels and confinement pressure loads, ground reinforcement means) and take into account the technique of tunnel excavation in both soil and rock,
  • Post-processing the calculation results to estimate the surface displacements and the structural force development inside the tunnel support.

The event is organized with the support of GHD who will share their practical experience of PLAXIS 3D to pre-cast segment tunnel lining. With GHD's support, a Python script was developed by Bentley to model the PCTL explicitly with joints to extract the desired output. This leading innovation which is still under development can improve the next generation of tunnel builder in PLAXIS to include the structural analysis results for PCTL.

The workshop consists of 2 full days (2 x 8 hr = 16 hr). It will be held by senior PLAXIS consultants and application engineers with years of practical experience in underground structure modelling.
