Dear Users,
I am after your suggestions on how to model construction loading in Plaxis 2D whilst using plane strain model. Worst case scenario loading is likely to occur when lifting a load at 45 degrees. this also results in the reduced contact area and hence increase pressure. Please see below a pressure diagram for your reference. Your help will be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Dear Nadeem,
Note that given the plane-strain conditions a 2D model has, the load from modelling a crane can overestimate the deformations. The reason for that is that the crane loading, in reality, is rather a local condition, while in a 2D model the load will be considered for the whole out-of-plane direction.
Therefore, PLAXIS 3D is more suitable for such a case.
In general, you will need to create the crane footings and adding interfaces below, with properties that do not allow for tension, you can simulate the gapping created.
