Hi all,
I'm working in a Plaxis 3D model for an underground excavation. Geometry is quite complex due to geology and excavation phases so intersections generate some little triangles that are giving me problems with mesh generation. I've tried with different options (coarseness) for mesh generator but I haven't succeeded. Model is reporting errors due to small edges as follows:
!!!!> _mesh 0.025 256 True 0.5 0.002 0.5Meshing failed with the following error:Fatal: Could not generate mesh.Warning: 1 EMR warning has been detected.Warning: # 1/1 of small edges: detected size 3.37e-02; this is 1.62e+01 times smaller than minimum targeted element size. Related geometries: Polygon_5_13, Polygon_7_9. Inspect the geometry locally.

Can anyone give some advice to solve this kind of issues?
Thanks in advance,
Francesc
Dear Francesc,
The information you get at the command line is useful to identify the areas where low-quality elements are generated.
Note that good elements are these with the same size for length, height and width of the element. With low-quality elements, issues can be encountered during meshing and calculations.
You are advised to improve/adjust the geometry at those areas to prevent slender (or pie-shaped) elements from being generated.
The screenshot you provided shows a sharp edged object which will generate a low-quality element. In some cases, local refinements can be applied or adjustments need to be made to prevent such geometries.
If you still have problems, please submit a service request.
Then, one of our support engineers can help you faster and in detail: https://apps.bentley.com/srmanager/ProductSupport
Thanks Stefanos. Finally I found a way to solve this issues.
Can you share how you have solved this?
Dear Francesc,I fully subscribe to Asif Mostafa's question. It is very interesting to know what can help to solve such mesh issue.Thank you in advance.
como?
Dear guys,
Basically I realized that some surfaces were not correctly intersected and I generated them again to get good intersections and then ensure let's say "not bad" meshing quality, with values above 0.001. As Stefanos wrote this requires some local refinements. Finally it is also important to adjust general meshing parameters to avoid this knd of issues. Obviously, it always depend on your model but I hope this helps you.... I strongly recommend you to submit a service request to Bentley guys, they will respond you quickly and will give you more specifically recommendations of your model. But if you want feel free to contact me to have a quick look on your model.
Sorry for my late response.
