Soil test

Dear Sirs,

Could a CU + U triaxial test be modeled on Plaxis using Triaxial Drained? The goal is to use the drained parameters I have from the CU + U lab test in an HSM after modeling the lab tests (Oedometer and triaxial) on Plaxis.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Adnan.

  • Dear Adnan,

From your question I understand that you have drained parameters and you want to run a CU triaxial test in SoilTest.

In general, when an undrained test is performed the bulk modulus of water is taken into account in the stiffness of the soil. With PLAXIS this can be done automatically when the setting is set to undrained. When the drained setting is chosen then the bulk modulus of water will not be added in the test.

In any case, when having effective drained stiffness parameters you need to switch to Undrained in SoilTest Triaxial test to perform the CU test you are interested in.
If the latter is not chosen then this will actually be a fully drained triaxial test.
