I am trying to model a wedge on the pit shell with the "Moving Wege" Search Method. I have the mapping of the 3 wedges that cause this instability and have given the properties the weak zone to wedges. I tried once also with defining weak surfaces on the wedges. However, FoS cannot be calculated and the error is constantly " No factor of safety obtained. One possible reason is an incorrect slip direction". I have tried orientation analyses with different parameters but still, the result is the same. It is very simple calculation and I am not sure what else I can do for it to work. I would appreciate if someone can share a sample that is modeled with Wedges.
Many Thanks
In 3D SVSLOPE analysis each side of the block must be defined by a plane. Each plane is located in space through the use of a 3D point, a dip, and a dip direction. This type of analysis can be utilized to represent failure of a rock wedge. In real world situations it may happen that there are fracture patterns in the rock. In order to accommodate this situation 3D SVSLOPE has implemented the ability to handle multiple planes on each side of a wedge failure.
The wedges option allows a critical slip surface to be specified as a series of one or more interlocking planes. This specified slip surface is often used to specify a block type of failure mechanism. Each surface comprising a wedge is formed based on a single locating point and dips two directions. It is also possible with the interface to specify a discontinuous material which applies exactly along the wedge slip surface. Further definition of the exact parameters involved for a wedge may be found in the following descriptions.
Please make sure that the wedge parameters are entered correctly because this could be the reason that there is no sliding mechanism found. The following article makes use of this feature for your reference.
