Our tunnel team is trying to do some seismic analysis on our FE design models

Our tunnel team is trying to do some seismic analysis on our FE design models but not sure whether we are following the best procedure that works best with Plaxis or not and I would be very appreciated if give us some advise.
To simulate seismic on our model, we apply displacements on X direction over the four boundaries of the FE model. Please let us know if it is the best way to do seismic analysis on Plaxis model?

  • As long as you reach the same deformation difference from top to bottom. However, it is not over with that. This is very tricky process and even after 100ths of analyses, I can still find some problems in a procedure that works for 100 others. So, you should understand the analytical method, the expected deformation profile (both free field and with tunnel) and check the Plaxis with that. Assuming Plaxis will work well for this method is not a good idea.
