PLAXIS 2D: Tutorial 08 Questions regarding the interfaces

Hi all,

I have several questions regarding Tutorial 08 for PLAXIS 2D.

1. There seems to be a gap between my footing and upper interface. Although I have tried to merge equivalent geometric objects, it was suggested that "no equivalent geometric objects found". When I select the nodes for calculation, it was suggested that those nodes to the right of gap are not on the interface, they are from soil_1, which is the concrete footing. The generated mesh is displayed as follows:

2. The calculation cannot proceed from Phase 1. I suppose this is a subsequent failure due to the issue above.

Thank you!

  • Dear Cho Sum Yip,

    1. From what I see on the screenshot, on the right side, this is an artificial gap introduced to show you the presence of the interface there. You can minimize this by changing the scale to manual and almost zero value.
When selecting curve points before the calculation you can only pick soil nodes. After the calculation, you can select nodes on structures and for that, you need to store extra steps (in the Phases window). Note that Soil_1 and later after intersection Soil_1_1 is the main soil body.

    2. I am not sure what the issue is there. I have followed the tutorial and it seems to work for me, so I think we need to check what you have done in the model, what the error is and why it is caused. Feel free to submit a service request: https://apps.bentley.com/srmanager/ProductSupport
