What should be Rinter value for clayey sand in case of a bored concrete pile?
Dear Jerin,
We typically do not recommend parameter values as this should be based on data collected from your investigation, laboratory data, engineering experience and judgment.
On a very (very) rough estimation, considering interaction with sand and concrete values of Rinter between 0.8-1.0 can be used, and with clay with concrete values between 0.7-1.0. However, it is very difficult to say exactly what value would best fit your analysis.
Please consider running a sensitivity analysis on the Rinter value for your calculation to get a better understanding. If you think that Rinter is not the best approach, you can also define a Custom material and create a material to be directly assigned to your interface in which you have control over both stiffness and strength values.
Thank you very much for your support.
In general, we usually use Rinter = 0.67 for concrete, whereas Rinter = 0.5 for steel (smooth surface). However, it is highly dependent on the type of soil and the roughness of the structural surface. In addition, you can refer to the paper below to get a better explanation regarding the skin friction of soil structure.
