For the embedded pile row, what does the lateral resistance represent? Is it the same as the passive resistance behind laterally load piles or is it the p-y curves? Is there a reference that provides information on how to model the multi-linear resistance? Thank you
Dear Benan,
The lateral resistance is explained in detail in our Reference manual.
In short, this allows for limiting the transverse forces that can happen due to lateral displacements. The multi-linear resistance is merely a table that can be defined by users that will allow taking into account inhomogeneous or multiple soil layers with different properties.

Thank you for your response. While they can be defined by the user, they do need to be based on some rational. I have gone through the reference manual. While the vertical soil resistance is clear, the lateral is not that clear and there are no problems that I could find addressing it. Based on the formulation, and assuming it to be a limit for the lateral resistance, the Brinch Hansen or API formulas for maximum lateral soil resistance seem appropriate. As far as multi layered soil, this is not an issue. Thank you
