Hello,
I want to model face bolts in tunneling with a length of 12 meter with embedded beam elements. I have 100 calculation phases with an advancement of 1 meter per phase. So have to shorten the embedded beams every calculation phase. I divide the beam in 1 meter segments and activate / deactivate the segments. So the following Problem occurs: The segments are not coupled and move independently from each other. Is there a way to connect the segments. I tried the connection-types rigit and hinges and the element rock bolts and piles. None of them works. I work with PLAXIS 3D Version 2018.
Dear Alexander,
It's not possible to couple embedded beams; embedded beams can only be connected through their top point, it's not possible to connect anything to the bottom point.
To model face bolts one should use regular beams rather than embedded beams.
With kind regards,
Dennis Waterman
Alexander,
Interesting problem, I've not tried to link one embedded beam to another, I suspect the problem may be that an embedded beam also includes a sort of interface around it, and the interface causes the beams to move independently. I think you might get the correct behavior if you put the rock bolt in full length and don't shorten it, just let the free part stick out. It shouldn't pick up and load and won't influence the rest of the rock bolt.
Otherwise if you don't want them sticking out, I'd try set up a simple test problem in 3D with just one segmented rock bolt, and try to see if you can get the behavior correct.
Hope this helps,
Martin
