Dear guys,
When conducting dynamic analysis in plaxis using the HS small soil model and you have parametres like Go (Gmax) what should be the correct input of E50, Eoed and Eur in HS small?
Dear Jamal,
In our Material Models manual there is a section on the use of the Hardening Soil model in dynamic calculations. I recommend you check that for more detail.https://communities.bentley.com/products/geotech-analysis/w/plaxis-soilvision-wiki/46137/manuals---plaxis
Note that you may need to consider using the Hardening Soil model with small-strain stiffness.
Dear Stefanos Thank you for your reply,
In Plaxis Manual 2021 page 93-94,
In HS small model it is noted that Go and Gur ratio is important. Knowing that Go is equal to Gmax, and Gur can then be determined by assuming a certain ratio……as given by Brinkgreve?
Based on the kind of soil and experience you could indeed assume a certain ratio. Alternatively you would have to determine it through some test. For instance a triaxial, oedometer or DSS test with unloading to determined Eur or Gur ...With kind regards,
Dennis Waterman
thank you
Regarding this topic, I have reviewed the suggested manual but I still have the doubt.
To perform the static analysis and the dynamic (seismic) analysis using the Hardening soil with small-strain stiffness model, are all the stiffness parameters (E50ref, Eoedref, Eurref, G0ref) the same for both analyses?... or some of them, like for example the Eurref parameter for the dynamic case is a different value than for the static case?
Dear Julissa,
For both static and dynamic analysis one should use the same parameters in the HSsmall model.
With kind regards,
Dennis Wateramn
